A note to our customers:

Back in 2007, Poketo was being operated out of a small loft in the Arts District, a part of Downtown Los Angeles that at the time had few amenities and very little in the way of restaurants and shops. Our first home was not your typical storefront, but instead a loft space that was used as an office and the occasional art show. Our team consisted of three determined people running an online and wholesale business; striving day-to-day to be the best, to do what we loved, and to spread Poketo’s brand philosophy of “Art for Your Everyday”.

Over the next few years, our business grew. We hired more employees, added more products, collaborated with more creatives, and held as many art shows and community gatherings as possible. We spent five years in our little loft before we outgrew the space. We searched all over LA for a new location, but ended up coming back to where we started, back to the neighborhood we loved—the Arts District.

So in 2012, when a much larger space opened up not far from us, we jumped at the opportunity to move our office and open Poketo Flagship; our first retail store, gallery, and event space. Being in an up-and-coming neighborhood allowed us to experiment with a different retail model, and we learned a lot in the process. Instead of focusing solely on sales, we were able to focus on building a community of emerging artists, designers, and art lovers alike. We introduced their work through exhibitions, collaborated on exclusive products, hosted artist talks and music shows, and established our workshops program within the first year of opening.

Year after year, more independent businesses began to pop up around us. As pioneers of the scene, we all worked hard and poured our hearts into making the Arts District the thriving neighborhood it is today. Our once quiet neighborhood grew into a global destination and one of the hippest areas in LA. Soon, Poketo Flagship became synonymous with the Arts District, known for its independent spirit and vibrant energy.

It is with a heavy heart that we are announcing that the end of May will mark our last days in the Arts District. New building owners have decided to redevelop the property and make way for the next wave of change in the neighborhood. The past five years have been incredible for Poketo. Our flagship store has allowed us to serve you as an important anchor in the Arts District and the greater Los Angeles creative community.

Rest assured that as we close the doors to this store, we plan to open the doors to another space very soon. Even though it’s our last month in our first location, we are not going away and we are taking this time to plan even more inspiring, beautiful, and fun things for you.

While we aren’t quite ready to announce all the details just yet, we want you to be the first to know. For the latest news, follow us on Instagram at @poketo, sign up for our email newsletters, and visit us at our other locations at The LINE Hotel and Platform in Culver City.

Until then, we want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all of the support you continue to show us.

Sincerely,
Ted Vadakan, Angie Myung, & The Poketo Team
